Anxiety is nothing short of debilitating. If you’ve ever had an anxiety attack, the chances are that you’ve been convinced of a heart attack – that’s how scary it can be! Anxiety often manifests as a rush of adrenaline accompanied by a closing throat and a shortness of breath. This always seems to lead to a pressure in the chest and stomach, which is where the feel of a heart attack comes in.
Anxiety can pull you away from people, can teach you how to disassociate your emotions and learn how to isolate yourself. The symptoms can distort your world and overrun your life and it’s all very difficult to cope with when you are trying your best to keep your mind present and relax enough to breathe slowly. You need to be able to beat your anxiety and whether you do this with the help of Bluesky Psychology or you choose to start some other kind of movement therapy, you need to do whatever you can to get back on track. With that in mind, here are some tips to help you to beat your anxiety.

- Watch your diet. For some people, the anxiety they feel can be triggered by certain foods. For some it’s caffeine based drinks and for others it’s for heavily sweetened food. If you lean more towards whole foods and not processed ones, you’re going to reduce the risk of breaking out in a cold sweat. It’s not all about eating apples and nothing else, but you need to figure out your triggers and if food happens to be a trigger for you, you need to make some changes.
- Eat regularly. Hunger pains and a lack of nutrition can both lead to your temper shortening and your patience thinning down. Being “hangry” is no fun, and low blood sugar can make you panic. Why buckle your mental health if you don’t have to? Eat regularly and don’t apologise for it!
- Let go of the coffee. We talked about caffeine being a trigger, and the best way to reduce it is to let go of the coffee. You want to have it in the morning, though, right? Well, that’s fine but do you need more than one cup of coffee at a time? Probably not and if it’s causing your anxiety, you definitely don’t need it!
- Keep hydrated. You need to keep your brain alive and awake and the best way to do that is to ensure that you are hydrated. Drink water throughout the day and do so regularly so that your brain remains saturated and you are feeling fewer headaches. You need to be able to focus and water will help!
- Get some help. Whether you ask a friend to help you or you seek professional therapy, you need to talk to someone about your anxiety and get through it all. Beating anxiety is more than possible if you can get someone around you that you can lean on properly. Don’t be alone in it.
